War Chief Pt1

Maybe your not a protege' but a parasite.
A parasite wants what you've earned not what you've learned.
A parasite wants whats in your hands not what's in your heart.
Are you a protege' or a parasite ?

A mentors suggestion is a command for a protege'
Dr. Mike Murdock

Jim Maloney, 'War Chief' to The Mi'kmaq Nation, The Mi'kmaq are the original natives of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick parts of Newfounland, Quebec and Maine.

To get Jimmy going when he was sparring, Bob Bethoney would pound out an Indian war drum beat on the floor louder and louder. It was as if to call the Indian Chiefs' spirits to come down and join Jim's body. After that jimmy was fighting like a God. When you look at the last scene in the movie THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, where the father having seen his son killed, rushes up the mountain slaying dozens of Indians without breaking his stride and with the eye of the tiger in Mooshin , finally gets to the person who killed his son and is able to take revenge with violence of action, power and technique.......that is Jimmy.

Bruce Lee visited George Mattsons' Dojo once and Jim had a chance to fight Bruce; in fact there is a picture in Bruce Lee's book with Jimmy and Bruce squaring off.

Maloney's fighting speed in those days was phenomenal.

Bruce only weighed 127 lbs back then. He had a hard time against Jim who would charge him behind a wauke screen sweeping away his kicks.

In this shot you can see Bruce Lee about to be taken down by Maloney.

Uechi has the 'straight blast' similar to WC but with open chain palms out of seisan that are extremely effective for short stop and take downs.

 Bruce wasn't used to that.

In a conversation with Van Canna, Jimmy said that the exchanges were many and Bruce used some of the photos for his book of the action shots.

Van said, Bruce was trying to close the distance with fast kicks,
but couldn't and that Jimmy had to take it easy on him because he weighed only 127 pounds. George Mattson was telling Jimmy ‘Take it easy’ for fear he’d knock him to the floor. Jimmy did confirm he got his wauke under his side and round kicks several time in a jamming fashion, off balancing him, but holding him up so he wouldn't fall.

Flavor of the Weak

Each of us has a cunning 'shadow self'
(what Jung and Freud call ego)

That's where the 'righteous anger' routine comes from.
Similar to 'convienent truth' as a method of deflection.

You simply feel that you've been done wrong , and it's unacceptable.
Someone has to say sorry and it's not going to be you.

It's easy to tell others to stay calm and move on
until the 'shit hits the fan'  in our own lives, then its 'gloves off'' !

At this point it's VERY difficult to find a 'neutral perspective'.
Focus on goals and a clearly defined purpose is jeopardized.
This delusional approach will likely bury you in a shallow grave of lies.

Life is a long rainy storm,  learning to 'Dance in the Rain'
before the storm passes is liberating.

I've been doing an exercise taught to me by George E Mattson.
George is the North American Uechi Ryu Karate Founder, a mentor and a friend.

How simple is this ?
Perform Master Uechis' Sanchin Kata at 'Tai Chi' speed.
If you can master this ultra slow motion method of introspective analysis
you can get past any person or event that is renting space in your head..

One of my sales reps is so wrapped up in her phone and what's going on with
Facebook , that it effects her sales every time.

The ability to separate yourself from social drama in favor of a beneficial goal
is paramount in fitness, martial arts, love and life.

I had a student we called 'Tinkerbell' During training breaks she would
go to her gym bag and check her texts, obviously adversely affected by
the message she received, I finally asked her why she did that.

She explained that her ex was the title holder of her car and was
calling her and texting trying to control her using the car as  leverage.

I could have a million more friends if I would just change my point of view.
Joe Lewis said we as fighters should maintain
'constant forward pressure'.

I  think the same applies to all aspects of our lives. Don't get distracted.
Assume the topless lady invariably has something up her sleeve.
If your steadily losing you aren't using what you know is right.

Even if you do the right thing and are steel willed
the 'hocus - pocus' in our lives leaves us maladjusted
and your tears get rusted.

As martial artists we strive to forge a body of steel in the fire of our will.
I suggest you maintain an insurance policy that includes collision;
then leave the wreckage at the door.

Our Dreams are Important
We must Leverage our Passion to Honor Them !!!

The Recipe

There are three ingredients in the good life:
 learning, earning and yearning.
-Christopher Morley-

It doesn't matter whether your baking a cake, some gluten free brownies,
 (ha ha Susan)
or trying to develop a successful team with a sense of community.........
The blending of ingredients is the benchmark of success,
 not the ingredients themselves.
Grand Master George Mattson, Uechi ryu Pioneer

I've never known anyone to taste flour or baking powder
then smile and say "mmm boy is that gonna be a goood cake,,,,,,,!"

Often our vision turns out to be something  drastically different than we imagined.
Last night in Plaistow, NH...

I watched 200 plus people celebrate their Black Belt Graduation.
The candidates were joined by an audience 1500 people from the community
These students had been mentored by Senseis' Buzz and Judy Durkin
and the Butokukai  organization of outstanding teachers.
Associations and dojos have alot to learn from Senseis' Buzz and Judy.

Later during a brief conversation with martial arts legend,
George Mattson I discovered an interesting lesson.

I said to George,
"It must be an amazing feeling to know your responsible for all this !"
He smiled and said he hadn't imagined this.

During a conversation about the release of my latest film project,
'Anatomy of the Tide', originally due Sept 2012 now June 6, 2013.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1980038/

I told George I was a bad guy in the film and had used movements from the
Uechi Ryu Kata Seisan in my fight scene then curb stomped my opponent.

He said sarcastically,
"That should be real good for Uechi Ryu..!

Each of us are merely ingredients in the recipe that is our art,
Our family, our style, our dojo .....our community.

Live life fully while you're here.
 Experience everything.
Take care of yourself and your friends.

Have fun, be crazy, be weird.
 Go out and screw up!

 You're going to anyway,
so you might as well enjoy the process.

Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes:
find the cause of your problem and eliminate it.

Don't try to be perfect;
just be an excellent example of being human
