Fearless Fitness/Martial Arts: The Anatomy of Courage

Fearless Fitness/Martial Arts: The Anatomy of Courage: A coach must be able to help a student to believe in oneself.  He must build self-esteem before confidence can surface.    Self-esteem...

The Anatomy of Courage

A coach must be able to help a student to believe in oneself.
He must build self-esteem before confidence can surface.

 Self-esteem gives rise to self-confidence;
 not the other way around.
A coach must understand this process to develop a student’s
 level of consciousness.

Consciousness is one’s ultimate survival tool in a real altercation,
not some technique or style of martial arts.

 For a fighter,
the authority of one’s will is their ultimate attribute.

-Joe Lewis-

Vicky Soto,
A non-trained woman of exceptional courage
gave her life that others may live.
Her selfless act should be a cornerstone on all our lives.

So many people with the will and strength to survive being overcome by violence engage in and lose a fight for their lives  because they're out-massed, out-gunned and untrained.

Try to stop a moving car by getting in front of it instead of turning off the ignition.
Seeing a person as a machine—and then shutting it off—goes against everything we are and love.

It is a failure of our humanity and our society.

All of us wish we could have been at the verge a of disaster with a firearm,
or at least armed with knowledge and skill and in the right place at the right time.

Practice means that when it matters most it won’t be the first time you’ve done it, but the 101st.
That fantasy of making a difference is made real by preparation.

The worst time to be reminded that you meant to learn CPR,
is when someone is having a heart attack right in front of you.

There is no beast within you waiting to be unleashed as your window of existence begins to close.
You will only have what you brought with you.

Right now.......
You know how to run and you know how to hide.

.
This is why I teach and train.

I can’t be with you every moment of every day.
But the information, the knowledge can. .

You Talk to Much

Have you begun a conversation with someone expecting a dialogue
and discover the partner in this dialogue is engaging in a monologue?

What differentiates us from animals is that we can listen to others dreams,
fears, joys, sorrows, desires and defeats and they can listen to ours,

Let every person be quick to hear,
slow to speak, slow to anger.
-James 1:19-

Good listening skills are important in life and in sales.
Monopolizing a conversation  makes others uncomfortable, even agitated.
It negatively impacts establishing rapport or a common bond with a prospect.

behind effective communication is the skill of being a good listener,
even when your partner says something hurtful or that you don't agree with.

Trust your Trainer (Joe Lewis)

Listen to your trainer and don't allow your ego to dictate your actions.
This all boils down to following directions.
Trust your trainer, do what he says.
Don't fall into the trap of letting your ego override your strategy.

Listen !!!
Self-esteem gives rise to self-confidence;
not the other way around.
A coach must understand this process to develop a student’s
level of consciousness.
Consciousness is one’s ultimate survival tool in a real altercation,
not some technique or style of martial arts.
For a fighter,
the authority of one’s will is their ultimate attribute.

A life may last just for a moment,
but memory can make that moment last forever.
Twenty first graders were gunned down on Dec. 14
 at
Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Along with the students, the lives of six school staffers,
including a teacher and a  principal, were lost  in Newtown, Connecticut.

.
'Cooler than Superman'...Dylan Hockley age 6 loved kickboxing..........

It's said.....
Your spirit does not die, it goes to the spirit world.
You will continue to learn and progress and may be with loved ones who have passed.

Im actually smiling through tears....
Dylan gets to train with my friend Joe Lewis.

There is a Mexican saying that we die three deaths:
the first when our bodies die,
the second when our bodies are lowered into the earth out of sight,
and the third when our loved ones forget us.

Team Fearless will not forget

Get off of my land !!!

Welcome to Sioux Falls, South Dakota !
Founded in 1856,Sioux Falls is the largest city in the U.S. state of South Dakota.
The city was abandoned, sacked and resettled.

A prehistoric people  left numerous burial mounds on the high bluffs near the river.
Later residents built fortified villages on many of the same sites.

There descendants are a population of 153,888 people.
Residents live in fear of a militant law enforcement community.

Divorce capital of the nation
Beginning in the 1880s,
lax oversight on the part of local judges re: sworn testimony caused word to spread countrywide that divorce was easily obtained in Dakota Territory.
As a result Sioux Falls became known as the"divorce capital".
The phenomenon had ended by the early 1900s.
Today's militant law enforcement community is dead set on the prevention of woman's rights.

On guard:
Investigators from the attorney generals office led by Investigator "Dave...",
and Police officers converged on the Courtyard Marriott hotel at about 6am.
They emerged from unmarked black SUVs' and shouted at unarmed guests,
"Get Off of my Land !"
The tense stand-off  ended about twenty hours later.
Two elegantly dressed women,
with no previous criminal history's were eventually wrongfully arrested.
After being degraded and strip searched the women were released.

Authors note:
Sources have confirmed that Chief Investigator 'Dave....'  had been caught engaged in "homosexual acts" by his first two wives resulting in his fear and hatred of women.

Clinical psychologists believe that this is what led to his maniacal hatred of women.
They said,"An individual like this fears exposure to his homophobic coworkers."

Still unconfirmed are reports of bestiality and pedophilia by this same investigator.

Fearless Fitness/Martial Arts: The Double Edged Sword

The Double Edged Sword

The holiday season for most people is a fun time of the year filled with parties,
celebrations and social gatherings with family and friends.

The First Santa

Odin was the god of wisdom, magick and occult knowledge, runes, poetry and war.
His name means “the inspired one”.
Like a shaman he could travel in other worlds to gather more insight.
Odin was depicted as a tall, old man with a white beard and wearing a cloak.

Odin rode the skies and the seas on his fast white horse Sleipnir with his 8 legs
 (the number of transformation) .
He carried his never missing spear Gungnir (clear and focused intent) in his hand.

He had only one eye.

He had offered his other eye in exchange for wisdom at the well of the Mimir.
Odin became a shapeshifter, seeing in the outward world with his normal eye,
understanding the inward worlds with his black, removed eye.

The holiday season has come a long way since then......
It's just not the same without the festive skulls and entrails decorating the tree.

Christmas can be hard for many reasons.
Mostly I think its the uncertainty.
Losing love, not knowing if you can ever find a love like it.
Remember what this season really means.
Having love in your heart for someone
will change your outlook for the season.
 It's not about the gifts.
 It's about having  love inside
and sharing it with everyone that comes your way.
 Giving a helping hand
or a kind word to someone in need without expectation.
 Do this,
You'll receive more than you've ever dreamed of.

-Denise Lora Webster Davis-

 The Holiday Spirit

For many people, it is a time filled with sadness, self-evaluation,
loneliness, and anxiety about an uncertain future.

Depression is a lack of feeling.
When you’re depressed you can’t access feelings of self-love.
Since the love you feel for others is a reflection of the love you feel for yourself,
there's a disconnect.
When you’re depressed you misread situations;
you perceive others as being critical of you.
Because you don’t understand what happens when you’re depressed,
you listen to everything your depressed mind says,
and it causes havoc on relationships.

This year anxiety and depression can be a double edged sword,
12/21/12
Not only are we depressed but ...

'The End is Near'

Hopi Prophecy

"The Fourth World shall end soon, and the Fifth World will begin."
This the elders everywhere know.
The Signs over many years have been fulfilled, and so few are left.

"And this is the Ninth and Last Sign"

You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens,
above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash.
It will appear as a blue star.
Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease.

Mayan Prophecy

On Christmas Eve 2012,
The sky is divided by the sun and all dry land begins to rise.
The oceans respond to the tectonic shifts and the great flooding of the Earth begins.
New York is washed away by a tsunami ten times greater than the Indian Ocean wave of 2004.
Chicago returns to its swamp roots from the melting ice from the North Pole .
The Pacific and Atlantic Oceans collide in Nebraska.

For me the world is ending on 12/21/12........

The World of Kings and Liars

The 'Kings' are the dictators,
those who would dictate to us what we are and are not capable of.

The 'Liars' are those who misdirect us for the sake of their own agenda.

In this brave new world we are the sculptor and the clay.

As human beings we all develop emotional patterns.
These are mental or emotional states that tend to filter how we look at our lives.
You can change your emotional mood by a radical change in your physiology.

Tough training is exactly that which keeps me motivated.
Few people are self-motivated;
they need some outside stimulus like the right atmosphere
or a personal trainer to push them.
Some people are motivated by fear and others by love of something.
Some are motivated by the fear of looking inadequate
or of being exposed as an imposter.
They lack self-esteem; they fear any emotion that makes them feel on the spot.
So, they go through life or their “workouts” being emotionally blind folded.
They are the ones who quit first—they have become emotionally numb.
Your feelings are the spirit behind your motivation-
don’t leave home without them or pretend you are feeling something you’re not.
Martial arts are about being in touch with your greatest strength, your spirit.
You cannot endure tough training without it.
It is that sub-energy that triggers your will power.
Without this, anyone’s search in martial arts lacks vision -
they simply wonder around lost,
unsure of themselves and always looking for answers.
-Joe Lewis-

On 12/21/12 I'll be doing and activity that keeps me focused motivated and inspired.
I'll be at the gym on 12/21/12

Heard it before..?

Just because you've said something a thousand times
doesn't mean your students have heard it a thousand times.
 -Rory Miller-

As a sales trainer and a martial arts trainer/coach a common term is,
It's not so much you need to be taught as you need to be reminded.

I often experiment with different teaching and training methodologies.
It gives diferent perspective,
keepin it fresh or more importantly  presenting differing viewpoints,
improves the likelyhood of 'striking a cord' with a student or client.
As a student it's important to remind your self that you are a participant in life,
 not just an observer.
You may not 'get it' right away and thats ok, we're all wired differently.

We are what we repeatedly do.
  -Aristotle-

You've been told this every Holiday season...so I repeat...

Replace aerobic exercise such as running with strength training,
This will help prevent age-related fat gain.
Research shows distance runners gain fat and increase waist size as they age.
Sprint/interval training is the best conditioning method for fat loss,
Use a precise interval program in order to get results.
A round timer can help with precise work /rest intervals.

Enjoy this Holiday season while staying true to your goals....

Joe Lewis on Okinawa-Te

“The original system had a complete arsenal of weapon and non-weapon skills.
It had the perfect blend of old-school pain-tolerance training,
and scientific skills that utilized the least amount of effort and time to produce the maximum amount of damage. Its weaknesses are the amount of time it takes to learn all the long animal forms (there are 36, with one having up to 500 moves) and a lack of ‘balanced’ ground maneuvers.”

No system or methodology is complete,
or has all the answers but some are better than most.

Stay true to your goals, seek council through fellowship with like minded people
 and
' Innovate don't Immitate' !!!

Who are you when im not looking ?

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
 - Dr. Seuss -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xXD9-1mLBY
On the inside I know what I really want.
I know what my values are.
My ambition must not get in in the way.
Around me, things are falling apart;
 within me,
 they're falling together.

I've learned when you don’t understand your emotions;
you have only a limited capacity for self-respect,
and you don’t have healthy relationships with people.

It's interesting the stories that we make up about who we are,
what we’re capable of, and what’s achievable or not.

The big question then becomes,
how can we change our state of mind when not maximizing our true potential?

Tony Robbins poses an interesting question......
The toughest thing about chasing your dreams is managing the disciplines of persistent action and hopeful patience that are required to ultimately see the vision come to be.
This is an area of huge tension.
How do dream chasers manage that tension and thrive?

After an exhausting weekend with the former Mikki Buckland,
it is definitely time to move on.
In a book I read called The Energy Bus it talks about people like Mikki.
They're called Energy Vampires !!!

As human "beings" we all make mistakes...
We'd all do things differently......
had we known then what we know now.
What matters now is what you do now.
Let go of guilt. Let go of shame. Let go of blame.
This is "being" in the moment.
This is an empowered human being—the empowered YOU.
-Mike Klinger-
